Whales! Whales! Whales! I have been sighting whales almost every morning. According to the local newspaper, there are 300 identified individuals that hang out near Mazatlan, mostly humpbacks, but also fin whales and greys. There are 6 different species of whales that come by during the course of a year, but I like the humpbacks best. They are the real showy ones. They slap the water with their fins and tails and perform magnificent leaps sending up fountains of water. They are really fun to watch. It seems that the sportfishing industry has embraced the whale watchers as a result in the decline of bill fish. You can go out on the Aries Fleet (El Cid) as well as others.
