It’s Property Tax Time

Following the freeze on increases for 2012 property taxes for home owners by the State Congress recently, Mazatlán’s municipal council voted yesterday to reduce the 40 percent discount for businesses paying taxes on time to 30 percent.

The Council´s move was prompted by the loss of income the municipality will suffer by being unable to increase this year’s tax rate for individual home owners.

Home owners will still be eligible for a 10 percent discount if their property taxes are paid within two months of issuing the bills, and a 50 percent discount if they are pensioners or the home is their only residence and they reside in it.

The 2012 property taxes can be paid beginning January 16th at Banorte, Scotiabank, HSBC and Bancomer, or at the Municipal Hall.

Homeowners may pick up their tax notice at the nearest location to their residence by producing the previous year’s tax bill or tax number.

Locations this year are:

Cancha Germán Evers
Cines Multicinemas de Juan Carrasco
Pollos Kawa, Avenide Alemán
UAS
Beside the Burger King in the Zona Dorada
Plazuela López Mateos
Plazuela de la Benito Juárez
Firehall on Insurgentes
Av. Rafael Buelna outside the Mormon church
Renacimiento Grave Yard
Conchi Market

The Municipal tax department stated that of approximately 187,500 home owners in Mazatlán, 107,500 were current with their property tax payments.

If you are an EDM resident, your HOA manager will have a copy of your tax bill.
