Senate comminnttee investigations into last years’ security breaches at Target and Nieman Marcus have finally begun. One of the more interesting exchanges involved weather or not the consumer needs to be told that his information is now “out there”. And what information? My name? My Address? my creditd card number? or more seriously, my Social Security number? Who knows? I keep getting scam emails from who-knows-who offering help and advice. My recent strategy has been to lay low and check my credit card accounts weekly.
But there are other ways to handle this situation. I was talking to my friend Bonni Canary in Phase 2. She is a former Senior Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oregon. After she retired, she found an additional career with LegalShield, the largest legal services corporation in the United States. (They also serve 4 provinces in Canada).
She wants you to know that LegalShield and Kroll Advisory Services (an affiliate of Kroll Worldwide) offer a very affordable comprehensive identity protection package which can protect your whole family. This is particularly important in light of the December data breaches at Target and Neiman Marcus and several other retailers which revealed the extreme vulnerability of major retailers in north America. Right now, the information from those data breaches is being sold throughout the world.
