A Wine and Cheese Open House for Barron Artist, Silvia Saucedo Villela!
Thursday, February 7th from 2:30-5:30 pm
Hosted by Susan Weigenant and Jayne Rupe
Condo 222 Phase 1 Home of Mark and Susan Weigenant
Silvia is a mother of three and grandmother of six children from our neighboring community of Barron. She has crocheted since the age of eight when she began helping her mother earn additional money for their family. When an accident left her partially disabled, she dropped out of high school and continued her handicraft as her primary profession.
Silvia was a recipient of a Friends of Barron Microfinance Loan. From these funds she grew her crocheting business and diligently repaid her loan from portions of her increased sales.
Many of you are carrying her beautifully crafted purses and beach bags. Her colorful placemats adorn many tables. Silvia’s work includes 20-plus items, including hats, wine bottle carriers, can holders, and luggage tags. Her plastic yarn creations are amazingly durable and washable by rinsing in soapy water and drip drying.
Silvia will display a number of pieces for sale and take custom orders to fill quickly for delivery to EDM. Select your own patterns, colors, and sizes. Enjoy some refreshments in a relaxed setting while you get acquainted with this talented, delightful, and special artisan.
